Responding to Social Media Trends

So you’ve seen something trending online and you’re thinking of posting it to your social media channels, but you’re not 100% sure. Responding to trends on social media can improve engagement by fostering a sense of community and loyalty among your followers. But remember to ask yourself: 

Does this trend make sense for my brand?

Only some trends will work for your brand. When deciding whether or not to jump in on a trend, you’ll need to identify if the trend is relevant to your audience or if you’re doing it because everyone else is

Is your team nimble enough to turn around content quickly?

To authentically become part of a trend, you or your team will need to pull the content together and post it within 24 to 72 hours. There’s no point in posting something that is 3 weeks out-of-date (you’ll look like you’re trying too hard or that you’re out of touch with your audience) 

Understand the trend

Make sure you understand what it’s all about. Read up on the trend and see examples of how others are participating, and don’t forget to consider how it fits your brand.
